Project Plan

Video Diary / Podcast

Programme – Huyton Prince’s Trust

Team – Richie Evered, Jade Cotter

Giving students the facility to create video diaries / enhanced podcasts:

  • Track progress throughout the 12 week course
  • Provide evidence of activity for log book
  • Creating an online ‘e-portfolio’
  • Ability to evidence work placement activity
  • For use in the final presentation evening
  • Reflective log

Using the Samsung Handheld Devices, on loan from Knowsley, students will capture still photographs, video footage and audio throughout the programme.

This footage will then be edited into podcasts, by the students, and posted to the YouTube Youth Engagement Library; this will then be displayed on the Youth Engagement Facebook page.

This podcasts can then be used as evidence for the Prince’s Trust examiners, either instead of or to complement the written log books.

Furthermore the Podcasts will be used for self-reflection during and after the course and also for promotion for future teams.

The footage taken will also be compiled into a video which will be used in the final presentation evening at the end of the programme.

The feasibility of using mobile phones and digital cameras, technology which students already own, to acquire footage will also be explored.

ICT

Equipping students with the knowledge and skills to use ICT, E-Mail and Internet, to help them gain employment, education or training after the course.

Email – Helping the students setup and maintain an appropriate e-mail address which can be accessed online from any computer i.e. Google Mail.

Basic ICT Skills – assessing where students lack skills such as word processing, using the internet, using e-mail and presentations, and helping to improve these skills.

CV – showing the students how to create a CV and the format that is used, how to edit a CV to make it job/training/education specific and how to distribute CV.

Social Networking educating students on privacy settings and how to control social networking, particularly from an employment perspective. Encourage students to participate in Facebook / YouTube social network, highlighting the potential resources that it holds. Encourage students to participate in blogging and researching existing blogs on the internet.

Social Networking

Setting up a Youth Engagement Prince’s Trust Facebook public page.

This will;

  • promote the scheme
  • inform public about course, applying etc – reduce time wasting
  • be an engagement tool for the community and students, improving links,
  • raise awareness of fire risks,
  • allow organisation connect with public; listen and respond,
  • display podcasts and photographs from past and current teams,
  • allow direct communication with students and staff without accessing private details,
  • allow post course engagement

E-Safety

Production of an e-safety policy. This aims to inform how staff, parents/carers and children or young people are part of the procedures and how children and young people are educated to be safe and responsible users so that they can make good judgements about what they see, find and use.

Training – Thinkuknow Ambassador training – Katie Palmer, Richie Evered, Jade Cotter, Lee Langton, Chris Murphy and Janine Milson.

Ambassadors will then cascade the training to all YE Engagement staff, especially those dealing with YP aged 11-16.

Explore the idea of Ambassadors training students on Prince’s Trust / EARLY course so that they are able to present to young people as an extra qualification.
